Tata’s New iPhone Assembly Plant Set to Begin in November!
Apple's fourth iPhone assembly plant in India, built by Tata Electronics, is set to start production in November, according to Business Standard.
The new factory in Tamil Nadu’s Hosur will be Tata's second iPhone assembly unit, following their acquisition of Wistron's plant in Karnataka.
The 250-acre Hosur plant includes a components unit established by Tata three years ago. The assembly plant is a major expansion.
Tata Electronics plans to invest Rs 6,000 crore in the new assembly plant, matching their previous investment in the components unit.
The new facility is expected to employ over 50,000 workers, with 35,000-40,000 working in the assembly plant alone. It will be the largest in India.
This expansion aligns with Apple's strategy to diversify its supply chain beyond China, amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
Tata, along with Pegatron and Foxconn, is crucial to Apple's growing presence in India, which is set to contribute 20-25% to iPhone shipments this year.
Apple aims to shift 10% of its global iPhone production to India by 2025-26, benefiting from the government’s production-linked incentive scheme.
