OpenAI has officially launched GPT-4.5, its most advanced AI model yet, marking a major leap in AI capabilities. The new model is currently available as a research preview for ChatGPT Pro users and developers worldwide, with a broader rollout expected soon.
The release of GPT-4.5 comes at a time when competition in AI is heating up, with models like DeepSeek-R1 pushing innovation forward. To stay ahead, OpenAI has accelerated its efforts, delivering a model that promises a more intuitive, human-like AI experience.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared his excitement about GPT-4.5, calling it the first model that truly feels like talking to a thoughtful person. He added, “I’ve had several moments where I’ve sat back in my chair and been astonished at getting actually good advice from an AI.”
Altman also highlighted that GPT-4.5 is a massive, expensive model, though it won’t necessarily dominate benchmark scores. Instead, he described it as a “different kind of intelligence” with a unique “magic” that sets it apart from previous models.
According to OpenAI, GPT-4.5 brings major improvements in user experience, accuracy, and emotional intelligence. Here are some key enhancements:
Despite these improvements, GPT-4.5 is not classified as a frontier AI model. OpenAI clarifies that while it enhances computational efficiency and user interaction, it does not introduce entirely new capabilities compared to models like o1 or o3-mini.
OpenAI developed GPT-4.5 using a combination of new supervision techniques, supervised fine-tuning, and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF). This approach has resulted in a model that not only reduces hallucinations but also improves emotional nuance and conversational depth, making it ideal for collaborative work.
Currently, GPT-4.5 is available to ChatGPT Pro users and developers. OpenAI has announced plans to expand access to Plus and Team users next week, followed by Enterprise and Education users.
Additionally, the model has been integrated into Microsoft’s Azure AI Foundry platform, making it accessible to enterprise customers for business applications and AI-driven solutions.
With GPT-4.5, OpenAI is pushing the boundaries of AI, offering a model that feels more intuitive, intelligent, and emotionally aware than ever before. As availability expands, it’s expected to revolutionize how users interact with AI, whether for writing, coding, or solving complex problems.
Stay tuned for more updates as OpenAI continues to redefine the future of artificial intelligence!
